Terms of Use

Last updated 26 August 2026 · Applies to the Murmur app and to murmur.news

The short version

  • Murmur tells you what changed in the news and points you at the newsrooms that reported it. It is an orientation layer, not a replacement for reading the journalism.
  • Briefs are written with the help of AI from facts checked against the reporting, and spoken by a synthetic voice. It can still be wrong; tell us and we will correct it.
  • You get a full day of everything. After that it is a subscription, billed by Apple, cancellable any time in the App Store.
  • Listen all you like, personally. Don't re-publish the audio, resell it, or point machines at our servers.
  • Nothing in Murmur is financial, legal, medical or professional advice.

1. This agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Tenet Oyun Yazılım ve Pazarlama Ltd. Şti., a limited liability company organised under the laws of the Republic of Türkiye ("Murmur", "we", "us"). Murmur is the product; Tenet is the company behind it. They govern your use of the Murmur mobile app, the website at murmur.news, and everything we serve to them (the "Service").

By installing or using Murmur you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy is part of this agreement and explains what we collect and what we do not.

2. What Murmur is

Murmur gathers reporting from many publishers, groups it into event-level stories, and produces a short original spoken explanation of what changed, with links to the original articles.

It is deliberately not a substitute for journalism. The evidence, the interviews, the data and the analysis live with the publishers who did the work, and Murmur is built to send you to them. Nor is it a wire service, a real-time alerting product, or a source of record.

Murmur is produced with the help of artificial intelligence. Language models extract factual statements from reporting and draft the spoken script, which is generated only from statements that have been checked against the sources and passed automated editorial checks. The voice you hear is synthetic. Human editors can inspect, edit, exclude, correct, retract or pause any of it at any time.

3. Accuracy and corrections

We work hard to make Murmur accurate, and the system is built to fail closed — a story that cannot be supported by the reporting is excluded rather than guessed at. Even so, an automated pipeline processing hundreds of sources can make mistakes: a fact can be mischaracterised, a development can be described with the wrong emphasis, or a source can itself be wrong.

The Service is provided for general information. Do not rely on it where accuracy matters to a decision — check the linked reporting, which is why the links are there. Nothing in Murmur is financial, investment, legal, medical, safety or other professional advice, and no part of it should be treated as a recommendation to act.

If you spot something wrong, write to support@murmur.news. We correct or retract published content when it is wrong, and keep an internal record of the change rather than silently rewriting what was published.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Murmur, and old enough in your country to enter a binding contract in order to buy a subscription — or have the permission of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf. Murmur is a general news product intended for adults.

5. Access and the first day

When you first set Murmur up, you get a full day of the complete product: every edition, every story, your own interests and the whole player. It is not a reduced sample.

After that day, continued access requires an active subscription. There is no permanent free tier, and there is no reduced free version of a brief. We think one day is long enough to know whether the product is for you.

Equally, there is nothing sold on top of the subscription. Captions, transcripts, source links, background and lock-screen playback, and playback speed and volume are part of the product for every subscriber, and we will not move them behind an additional charge.

6. Subscriptions and billing

Murmur is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store, in monthly and yearly terms.

  • Price. The current price, in your currency, and any introductory free trial are shown in the app and in the App Store before you confirm. We do not quote prices on this website, because they vary by storefront.
  • Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation. We never receive or store your payment details.
  • Renewal. The subscription renews automatically for the same term unless auto-renew is switched off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Free trials. Where an introductory free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial, as Apple's rules require. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel at any time in your Apple ID subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues to the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple and granted at Apple's discretion. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases ourselves. If something has gone genuinely wrong, write to us anyway — we will help where we can.
  • Price changes. If we change the price of an existing subscription, you will be told in advance and asked to agree before it takes effect, in accordance with App Store rules.

Your subscription is tied to the anonymous identity in the app rather than to an account you log into. If you delete the app and reinstall it, use "Restore purchases" to recover your entitlement.

7. Acceptable use

Murmur is licensed to you for personal, non-commercial listening. You agree not to:

  • Copy, record, re-publish, broadcast, sell or redistribute Murmur's audio, scripts or transcripts, in whole or in part, or make them available to the public.
  • Use the Service, or content from it, to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine-learning model.
  • Access the Service by any automated means — scraping, crawling, bulk downloading, or any client other than the app we publish — or attempt to reach endpoints not intended for listeners.
  • Circumvent the subscription, share credentials or entitlements, or interfere with, probe or overload our infrastructure.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except to the extent that applicable law says you may.
  • Remove or obscure publisher attribution, or present Murmur's output as your own or as a publisher's.

Sharing a story from within the app, using the sharing feature we provide, is of course fine — that is what it is for. For clips the app creates when you share, we grant you a personal, non-commercial licence to post them where people share things, unmodified and with the attribution they carry left intact. If we retract a story, we may ask you to take its clip down, and you agree to.

8. Intellectual property

The Service — including Murmur's scripts, generated audio, artwork, software, design system and name — belongs to Tenet Oyun Yazılım ve Pazarlama Ltd. Şti. and its licensors, and is protected by copyright and other laws. Subject to these Terms and to an active subscription where one is required, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app and listen to its content. No other rights are granted.

Feedback and suggestions you send us can be used freely — the licence you grant us to them is perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide and royalty-free, with no obligation to you. Send nothing you would rather keep, and thank you for the rest.

9. Publishers and copyright

Headlines, publisher names, logos and linked articles remain the property of the publishers concerned. Murmur uses them for attribution and identification only, and their appearance in the app does not imply any endorsement, affiliation or partnership in either direction.

Links to publisher websites are provided for your convenience. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, accuracy, advertising, paywalls or privacy practices, and your use of them is governed by their terms, not ours.

Publishers who would rather not be included can write to support@murmur.news; we will downgrade the source to metadata-only or remove it entirely, logo included, the same day.

Copyright complaints. If you believe material in the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@murmur.news containing: your name and contact details; identification of the work you say is infringed; identification of the material and where in the Service it appears; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, their agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and your physical or electronic signature. That is the notice form of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and a notice in that form gets the fastest answer. We remove or disable access to material identified in a valid notice, keep a record of the decision, and accept counter-notices in the form the DMCA prescribes. Where a listener repeatedly infringes — which the product gives few ways to do — we terminate their access.

10. Availability and changes

We aim to publish every edition on time, but the Service is provided as-is and may be unavailable during maintenance, provider outages or for reasons outside our control. On a quiet news day an edition may be short, and an edition may occasionally be skipped where nothing has materially changed — that is editorial design, not a fault.

We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you are paying for in a way that materially reduces what you bought, we will tell you, and you may cancel through the App Store.

Murmur is early software, released first to a small group. Expect the occasional rough edge, and please report it.

11. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted or error-free operation.

We do not warrant that the news content is complete, accurate, current or suitable for any purpose, or that any particular story will be covered.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Murmur and its directors, shareholders, employees and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity, arising from or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including any decision taken in reliance on its content.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or US $50.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Murmur harmless from claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

14. Termination

You may stop using Murmur at any time by deleting the app, and cancel any subscription through the App Store. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms — in particular section 7 — or where required by law, and we will tell you why unless we are prevented from doing so.

Sections 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17 survive termination.

15. Apple App Store terms

These terms apply because the app is distributed by Apple:

  • This agreement is between you and Murmur only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
  • Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement or discharge of any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and have the right to enforce them against you.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of İstanbul, Türkiye have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you and Murmur consent to that jurisdiction and venue.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings locally and to the protection of mandatory consumer rules, this section does not take those rights away from you.

Talk to us first. Before starting formal proceedings, you agree to write to support@murmur.news describing the problem and what would put it right, and to give us thirty days to resolve it. We agree to the same before starting proceedings against you. Most problems are quicker to fix than to litigate.

Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court, where it qualifies. To the extent the law of your jurisdiction allows: you and Murmur each waive trial by jury, and any claim relating to the Service must be started within one year of the events giving rise to it or it is barred.

17. General

These Terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the Service. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing something is not a waiver of it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.

We are not liable for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control — infrastructure and provider outages, natural disasters, war, labour disputes, acts of government and the like.

Murmur is operated from Türkiye, with servers in the United States. Wherever you use it from, you are responsible for compliance with your local law, and we make no promise that the Service is appropriate or available everywhere.

Formal legal notices to us should be emailed to support@murmur.news with "Legal notice" in the subject line. Notices to you will be given in the app.

We may update these Terms. The date at the top will change, and for material changes we will give notice in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Murmur after that means you accept the updated Terms.
